Cadets and Training

The cadet section is open to children over 10 years of age. After the first month they are expected to provide their own buoyancy aid and wet suit, the club usually has a small supply of second hand items available for sale.

Cadets meet on Wednesday evenings during the sailing season between 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Sailing courses are offered free of charge. The Club is an On-board Club and takes part in Championship events at other local clubs and all cadets who are competent can take part. The Section shares 4 Topper Dinghies and 4 RS Fevas with the Training Centre, these boats are available for individual cadets to sail in organised club events and on cadet nights. During officially approved activities, cadets are the responsibility of the club, at all other times, whether on or off the water, they are the responsibility of their parents/ guardians.

The Club operates a Child Protection Policy and follows the guidelines laid down by the Royal Yachting Association. Sue Culton is the Child Protection Officer for the Club.

The Training Centre is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association and is inspected annually by a Regional Coach. The Centre shares 8 Dinghies with the Cadet Section. A 4.2 meter Rigid Inflatable and a Dory are used for power boat training.
